Orlando, Fla. – The South Carolina women’s squad took the team title while the men’s team finished third as the Walt Disney World Invitational track & field meet came to an end in Orlando on Saturday. The Gamecocks posted four additional NCAA regional qualifying marks on Saturday, bringing their three-day total to 14.

Sophomore hurdler Jason Richardson placed second in the 110-meter high hurdles, running a season-best time of 13.67 seconds, better than the 13.80 mark he turned in during the prelims. The Cedar Hill, Texas product finished third at the NCAA Outdoor Championships a year ago with a time of 13.50 seconds.

Sophomore Joe Schroeder won the javelin throw with an NCAA regional qualifying mark of 62.49 meters (205-0). It was the first time the Simpsonville, S.C. native has surpassed the 200-foot barrier in his career.

Junior pole vaulter Trey Bell matched his career-best effort by clearing 5.05 meters (16-6.75) to earn a spot at the regional meet. Bell, who graduated from Irmo’s Dutch Fork High School, also vaulted 5.05 meters twice last year.

Both of USC’s 4×400 meter relay teams logged NCAA regional qualifying marks. The women’s “A” team won their race in a time of 3:38.96, while the men finished third in 3:09.09.

The Carolina women scored 154 points to outdistance Georgia Tech (135.5), Ohio State (92.83), UCF (90.33) and Maryland (67) among others. Tennessee won the men’s competition with 147.5 points, while St. Augustine’s College was second with 115.5. USC finished third with 99 points, ahead of Georgia Tech (89), Jackson State (71) and numerous other teams.
