Box Score

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech Hokies (25-8) completed a doubleheader sweep over the South Carolina Gamecocks (22-14) Tuesday as the Gamecocks lost 2-1 in game two of the twinbill. Game two was called after five innings due to lightning and oncoming darkness.

Christie Hamilton (11-7) pitched five innings and gave up two runs on three hits. Katie Maynard (10-6) gave up one Gamecock run on two hits in five innings pitched. Hamilton and Smith accounted for the two Gamecock hits.

With the game tied 1-1 in the fourth, Virginia Tech’s Jessica Everhart hit a solo home run over the left field fence to give the Hokies the 2-1 lead. Hamilton was able to get the final two outs and closed the inning without allowing more runs to score, but that was all the Hokies would need.

USC scored its run in the first inning on an RBI single by Ashley Smith. Smith drove in Jessica Josker from second to record her 98th RBI of her career. Smith now ranks tenth on USC’s all-time list. Josker reached safely on a one-out walk.

USC has now lost four straight to Virginia Tech. South Carolina returns to SEC action this weekend when they travel to No. 12 LSU April 1-2.
