COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina (22-18, 2-11) suffered another loss as they fell 10-0 in five innings to the tenth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (33-9, 13-3) Wednesday afternoon. Kate Pouliot (3-5) took the loss while Kasi Carroll (15-3) recorded the win.
Pouliot gave up 10 runs on 12 hits while USC recorded two hits off of Carroll. Jacqueline Wetherbee and Whitney Wierzbicki recorded USC’s two hits. Wetherbee hit a single and Wierzbicki recorded a bunt single, both in the second inning.
Georgia went up 1-0 in the first inning on an RBI single by Megan McAllister. The Bulldogs extended its lead in the second as UGA batted through the lineup to score four runs on four hits. In the second, Carroll hit her fifth home run of the season with a two-run homer to left field.
Up 5-0 in the top of the third, the Bulldogs had the bases loaded when Becky Mohl lined a single down the first base side and drove in two runs and UGA jumped to a 7-0 lead. Kellie Middleton then doubled to drive in two more Bulldog runs and McAllister drove in another RBI to give UGA the 10-0 edge.
The Gamecocks were unable to score in the bottom of the fifth and Georgia completed the shutout and the run-rule victory with the final score of 10-0.
