COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina women’s tennis team will face Mississippi in the first round of the 2006 Southeastern Conference Tennis Tournament. Florida is hosting the event at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex over April 20-23 in Gainesville, Fla.

The eighth-seeded Gamecocks and ninth-seeded Lady Rebels play at 10 a.m. on Thursday on the Varsity Courts. The winner faces top-seeded Florida on Friday at the same time.

South Carolina finished the regular season with an 11-9 record and was 4-7 in the SEC. Ole Miss posted a nearly identical record, going 11-8 and 4-7. USC won the regular-season match-up between the two schools 4-3 in Oxford, Miss., in early March, however, Mississippi holds the all-time edge in the series 12-8.

The schedule of play for the SEC Women’s Tennis Tournament is as follows:

First Round (Thursday, April 20)
