DULUTH, Ga. – The University of South Carolina is one of seven universities to host the adidas Futures Softball Showcase this summer. The event will be held July 6 at Beckham Field. The showcase event will search for the country’s top 100 fastpitch softball players to attend the adidas Futures National Camp in St. George, Utah, Sept. 2-3. The event held at USC is limited to 125 registered players and anyone interested, ages 14-18, can register at www.thepitchersmound.net/adidasfutures.
The event is designed to attract eligible elite players and introduce them to area college coaches through a display of their position specific skills on the field.
There are elite fastpitch players throughout the country who aspire to showcase their individual talents with other top athletes in a national showcase setting. The adidas Futures National Camp will provide such an arena. On September 2 and 3, 2006 in St. George, Utah, the best of the best will be invited to compete and showcase their talents in front of an array of college coaches in hopes of landing the perfect fit at that next level. The first day of events will consist of players showcasing speed, finesse, attitude, offensive and defensive skills. Day two will be a series of games where those skills will truly be put to the test.
The nationwide search for the top 100 fastpitch athletes will begin this summer. The adidas Futures staff will be at several of the national and elite tournaments looking for the best of the best throughout the summer. In addition to the search at tournaments, the adidas Futures staff will be hosting six showcase (fee based) events at adidas sponsored schools. These events are open to elite academically eligible athletes that may not be participating at some of the bigger summer tournaments, that may want a more individual based showcase (versus a game or tournament), or feel that they are a diamond in the rough looking to be found.
The Pitcher’s Mound, who has a long-standing reputation for providing quality fastpitch instruction and has successfully assisted over 200 high school athletes in obtaining athletic scholarships, has been selected to run the adidas Futures events.
Each one day showcase event is designed to attract an eligible elite player and introduce her to the area college coaches through a display of her position specific skills on the field. Each of the showcase events will be limited to 125 pre-registered academically eligible players. The top athletes from each showcase event, along with the players selected from the elite and national tournaments, will be invited to attend the invitation only adidas Futures National Camp in St. George, Utah.
