Sacramento, Calif. – For the first time, the final day of the Division I Track & Field Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, California (Saturday, June 10th) will be televised by the CBS-TV from 3:30 – 6 pm (EST). Check local listings for the 86th annual NCAA Track and Field Championship being contested June 7-10 in Sacramento.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for collegiate track and field to shine on a national stage,” said USC Head Coach Curtis Frye.
The Gamecock women are ranked No. 5 nationally and the men are ranked No. 12.
CSTV will broadcast two hours of competition (8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern) on Friday, June 9. Never before has the next-to-last day of the NCAA Championships been televised live.
A quick day-by-day rundown on the schedule:
Wednesday, June 7: Competition begins at 10 a.m. with the first of 10 events in the two-day men’s decathlon, the 100 meters. Individual field event qualifying begins at 11 a.m. with the men’s hammer throw and continues through the men’s long jump at 7:15 p.m. The first running event, the semifinals of the women’s 4 x 100 relay, begins at 3 p.m. Wednesday’s track program concludes with the men’s semifinals of the 5,000 meters at 8:30 p.m.
Thursday, June 8: Second-day competition kicks off at 10 a.m. with the decathlon high hurdles. Field event qualifying begins at 11 a.m. with the women’s hammer throw and continues through 7:15 p.m. with qualifying in the women’s shot put. Track events begin at 3:30 p.m. with the first round of the women’s 100 meters. The women’s 10,000-meter final is at 7:20 p.m., followed at 8 p.m. by the men’s 10,000 final.
Friday, June 9: The NCAA Championships always shift into high gear on the third day of competition. Friday’s schedule includes seven field event finals and seven running event finals. Two of the most popular finals on the entire schedule – the women’s and men’s 4 x 100 relay – are scheduled for 4 p.m. and 4:10 p.m. Among Friday’s other finals are the women’s high jump, men’s pole vault, women’s 100-meter hurdles, men’s 110-meter hurdles, women’s 5,000 meters and men’s 5,000 meters. The men’s 5,000 is Friday’s final event, starting at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, June 10: For excitement and drama, the final day of the NCAA Championships is on a par with any other track event in the world. At last year’s championships, three collegiate records were set on Saturday, including a new mark in the men’s 4 x 400 relay by a foursome from LSU. The final-day schedule begins at 10 a.m. with the women’s hammer throw final. Track events start at 12:05 p.m. with the women’s 800-meter final. Saturday’s other finals include the men’s and women’s 100 meters, 400 hurdles, 200 meters, 1500 meters and 4 x 400 relays. The final event is the men’s 4 x 400 relay at 2:45 p.m.
