Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina freshman first baseman Justin Smoak has been named to the 2006 Freshman All-American team by Baseball America. The first-year player from Goose Creek, S.C. finished the year batting .303 with 17 HR and 63 RBI. Both his HR and RBI totals were freshman records for the Gamecocks. He also was the only player on this year’s squad to start all 66 games.

This is Smoak’s second freshman All-American honor. He also received first team recognition on the Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger list. Smoak is currently playing summer baseball in the Cape Cod League with the Cotuit Kettleers along with USC teammates Reese Havens and Mike Cisco.
