COLUMBIA, S.C. – Junior outfielder/designated player Jessica Josker took time out to chat with uscsports.com about how she is spending her summer.

How has your summer been? What have you been doing to keep in shape?
“My summer has been pretty good, I can’t complain. I have been doing an internship at Saluda’s Restaurant working as a server. I have been keeping in shape by lifting and running three days a week at the stadium with Billy Anderson, our strength coach.”

What are some of the biggest differences between South Carolina and California in the summer time?
“Everything is different. There is nothing like a California summer. For me, the humidity is the hardest thing to get used to out here though. Also, the water is a lot warmer on the east coast.”

What are some of your favorite summer activities to do here in SC?
“I like to lay out at The Rocks in the river, and go to the movies.”

What are some of your goals for the upcoming year?
“For starters my first goal is to make sure I am 100% for the season and also to make sure that I do whatever possible to make sure we have a better season. I also want to focus on being a better hitter and not strike out as much.”

What do you do to relax during your free time?
“To relax I like to watch old movies, like ones from the late 40’s to the late 60’s. Sometimes I like to go and hit in the cages. That helps me clear my mind.”

Have you seen any good movies this summer? Which ones?
“I saw X-Men 3. I thought that was very good, and I also saw Pirate’s of the Caribbean. It was pretty good, but not as good as the first one in my opinion.”

Now it is time to let Gamecock fans get to know you…Do you have any nicknames? If so, what are their meanings?
“Nope, no nicknames. Here at South Carolina, everyone calls me by my last name though. I assume it is because there were two Jessica’s on the team. On my summer ball team back home a lot of people called me Smalls. One day I had a rough day at practice and my coach started calling me that like from the movie The Sandlot. It just kinda stuck.”

Do you have a blog?
“I have no idea what a blog is, so I don’t have a blog. However, if someone would like to explain it to me that would be cool, because I hear about them all the time.”

If your life had a soundtrack, what song would it be?
“My Own Summer, by the Deftones. It was my up to bat song. Not because of the words, I just like the beat and that feeling you get when the song plays.”

If you could play another position, what would it be?
“I would want to pitch. I caught a little bit and I liked being involved in every play.”

What do you think you contribute to the team?
“This year I hope to bring more leadership.”

What classes are you signed up for in the fall?
“This fall I’m signed up for fiction, dance appreciation, quantity food production, small business organization & operations, computer app. in business.”
