GREENVILLE, S.C. — Laura Ganzer and Ana Marija Zubori of the South Carolina women’s tennis team will compete for singles titles in their respective flights on Sunday at the Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C.
Ganzer defeated Dorothy Dohanics from Penn State 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals of Flight Five on Saturday, while Zubori needed three sets to down Tennessee’s Ghizela Schutte 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 in Flight Three. Ganzer faces Liberty Sveke of Vanderbilt on Sunday at 10:30 a.m., and Zubori takes on Sveke’s teammate Courtney Ulery at 9 a.m.
The Gamecocks’ Natasa Vuckovic also registered a win over Alexandra Luc from Clemson by scores of 6-1, 6-2 in a Flight Two consolation match. Gira Schofield fell 6-3, 6-2 in her Flight One match to Vanderbilt’s Amanda Taylor, and Christyn Lucas was a 6-0, 6-1 loser to Connor Vogel of Tennessee in Flight Four.
South Carolina lost in the championship matches of two doubles flights. Schofield and Vuckovic fell to ninth-ranked Federica van Adrichem and Carol Salge of Clemson 8-4 in Flight One, while in Flight Three, the Tennessee duo of Blakely Griffith and Zsofia Zubor upended Ganzer and Miranda Gutierrez 8-3.
In a consolation doubles match, Lucas and Zubori topped Kaylan Caiati and Kim Roberts of Wisconsin 8-2.
Gutierrez was scheduled to play a consolation singles match in Flight Six but sat out with an injury following her morning doubles contest.
