Columbia, SC – The USC cross country team will travel to Furman University on Sat., Oct. 14 for the 11:20 am gun at the Furman Invitational. USC will compete against Clemson, Furman and 15 other Division I teams.

After a tough go at the Auburn Invitational two weeks ago, the women’s team trained hard and worked to get ready not only for the Furman Invitational, but also the SEC Championship to be held at LSU on Oct. 28.

“We were training hard, getting our mileage back up and hopefully we will be better prepared for not only this meet but also the SEC Championships in two weeks at LSU,” said USC cross country coach Stan Rosenthal. “We had some good work-outs and we are race healthy. Unfortunately I won’t know until tomorrow how it came out. I feel like we are ready to race well. Our goal is to win on Saturday. We aren’t so far better than anyone that it’s a shoe-in, but we’ve worked hard.

“We are lining up our SEC team in this race,” said Rosenthal. “The B team will use this as the race of the last race of the season if they don’t perform well enough to crack the top 10 to go to SECs.

“I look for Casey Gale and Rebecca Chain to run well,” said Rosenthal. “We need Anna and Karen to get back on board and run well again on Saturday. This will be a big help for us to run well here to do well at the SEC Championships.”
