The South Carolina softball team has released its 2007 schedule and the Gamecocks will open the season on the road beginning February 9. With at least 55 total games possible, the Gamecocks will host 16 home games, including the USC Tournament, Feb. 24-25. Non-conference action at Beckham Field will include Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech and North Carolina. USC will face six teams that were ranked in the final NFCA Top 25 poll and 11 teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
USC will open in Boca Raton, Fla. at the Florida Atlantic Tournament, Feb. 9-11 before making a Valentine’s Day date with Western Carolina for the home opener on Feb. 14. The Garnet and Black will also play at the Florida State Tournament, Feb. 16-17, before hosting College of Charleston on Feb. 22 and their own tournament, Feb. 24-25.
Highlighting the Gamecocks’ non-conference schedule will be the Pittsburgh Panthers on March 4, Virginia Tech on March 14 and North Carolina on April 18. USC will also host Charlotte, Coastal Carolina and Winthrop.
A trip to Fayetteville, Ark. will start conference play for the Gamecocks when they take on Arkansas March 10-11. USC will host Alabama for their conference season opener March 17-18. Also visiting the confines of Beckham Field for SEC action are Georgia, Kentucky, Florida and Ole Miss. The Gamecocks will travel to Mississippi State, LSU and Auburn.
Opponents for the selected tournaments will be announced at a later date.
