ABOUT THE WEEK

SETTING THE SCENE: South Carolina (11-10, 4-6) looks to record consecutive victories against No. 7 Florida (16-2, 9-1) for the first time since 1986 when it visits Gainesville, Fla., for an 8 p.m. showdown with the Gators on Friday. The Gamecocks ended a 25-match losing streak to UF earlier this season with their second victory over the Gators since joining the SEC in 1991. The Gamecocks head to Auburn, Ala., to face the Tigers (12-9, 4-6) on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in hopes of notching their 14th-straight win versus Auburn.

ABOUT FLORIDA: Florida’s two losses this season have come at the hands of UCLA and South Carolina. Since losing to the Gamecocks on Sept. 17, the Gators have won eight straight and seven of their triumphs have been shutouts. Florida has multiple offensive threats, with the leader being Kisya Killingsworth and her 3.42 kills per game. Amber McCray and Marcie Hampton also average over 3.00 kills. The Gators boast one of the SEC’s top setters in Angie McGinnis, who tallies 12.97 assists, 2.44 digs and 0.98 blocks.

ABOUT AUBURN: Besides defeating Georgia, the Tigers’ other three victories in the SEC have come against teams that defeated the Gamecocks (Alabama, Kentucky, Arkansas). Auburn’s offense is led by Rachel Shanks and Jessica Glover, who average 3.75 and 3.69 kills per game, respectively. Joanna Pappas holds the setting duties for Auburn with 11.46 assists per game and leads the team with 3.51 digs per game.

THE FLORIDA SERIES: Florida leads the all-time series with South Carolina 35-7 and won 25 in a row prior to losing this season’s Sept. 17 match in Columbia, S.C. The Gators are 17-2 at home when playing the Gamecocks, with their last loss coming on Oct. 18, 1986.

THE AUBURN SERIES: South Carolina holds a 15-6 advantage in 21 all-time meetings with Auburn and has won 13 in a row over the Tigers. USC has won seven consecutive matches in Auburn, Ala., with its last loss coming in a sweep on Oct. 13, 1995.
