Baton Rouge, La. – The South Carolina cross country team finished 11th in the Southeastern Conference Championships held Saturday at Highland Park in Baton Rouge, La.

Competing against 11 SEC schools including nationally ranked Arkansas (4), defending champion Tennessee (15), Florida (17) and Georgia(19), the Gamecocks totaled 301 points, finishing ahead of Ole Miss. Arkansas took the team title with 17 points with Lady Razorback freshman Brook Upshaw claiming the individual title running 20:14.

Rebecca Chain finished the competition in 44th place with a time of 22:15 to pace the Gamecock harriers. Also scoring for the Gamecocks were Casey Gale with a time of 22:28 for 52nd place, Callie Rabun in 65th place (23:01), Kelsey Bristol in 70th (23:30) and Laura Regensburg right behind in 71st place in 23:35. Senior captain Nicki Breves traveled with the team but did not race due to illness.

Carolina, running in their first 6K race of the season, placed better than the 2005 Championships when they tallied 311 points.
