Postgame Quotes: South Carolina vs. Mercer

South Carolina Head Coach Susan Walvius

On the game overall:
“I have not been pleased in the last few days because we didn’t get out of the gate well, but I think we did a much better job of that tonight. We did get out a little quicker start but there are still some areas that we need to grow. I think we can grow in our defensive effort and certainly with our rebounding. We should be a great rebounding team with the athleticism that we have. We’re working to get better.”

On the amount of people who played:
“We had three people in double figures, and we had a lot of players playing a lot of minutes and we needed that. We will need to play good basketball tomorrow to win.”

On the preparation of the team:
“Our team is very bright. They ask great questions and typically they do what we ask them to do. I’m really pleased with that aspect of the team. I think we have a chance to be a very good team this year and one reason is because our team is so bright.”

On playing against the zone:
“I thought we were too patient at the beginning. We didn’t move against the zone as well as I would have liked. Our team is extremely unselfish and they like to look for each other. I think we are a better offensive team this year. I think we can rebound out of the zone very well which usually is an issue. Like I said, we aren’t where we need to be, but we’re working to get better.”
