Competition Chart-Final in PDF Format

Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Equestrian team upset the undefeated Georgia Bulldogs Saturday at OneWood Farm in Blythewood by a score of 15-3. The Hunt Seat team galloped to an 8-1-1 victory over Georgia, improving to an impressive 9-0 record. The Western team improved to 3-6 on the year by upsetting Georgia 7-3.

“It was a great day today. I’m really proud of our Western team, as they’ve been struggling more than I would have liked,” said Head Coach Boo Duncan. “The Hunt Seat team was awesome and I’m really proud of the effort everyone gave today. It was a great way to end our home competition and send our seniors off.” The Gamecocks upset Georgia in equitation on the flat 4-0, with Carly Johns (Woodstock, Ga.) taking MVP honors. Other Gamecocks riders were seniors Sarah Lowe (Augusta, Ga.) and Kelley Campbell (Keysville, Va.), junior Kristen Terebesi (Glenmoore, Pa.) and freshman Carly Babcock (Deer Harbor, Wash.). In equitation over fences, the Gamecocks surrendered their first point to Georgia, but came away with a 4-1 victory. Junior Kristen Terebesi earned MVP honors with a high score of 83. Also riding for the Garnet and Black were Sarah Stephens (Chalfont, Pa.), LIndsey Pace (Camden, S.C.), Nicole Bourgeois (Sherwood, Ore.), and Megan Massaro (Summerfield, Fl.).

In horsemanship, South Carolina rode their way to a 5-0 shutout against the Bulldogs. Sophomore Katie Grossnickle claimed MVP honors with a score of 72.5. Led by senior captain Rachel Sternoff (Redmond, Wash.), the other Gamecock riders included Allison Bradley (Lancaster, Cali.), Katy Biffle (Orange Grove, Texas), and Kristina Papendick (Rapid City, S.D.). Sealing the Western team’s 7-3 victory for the Gamecocks was Allison Bradley in the reining competition, defeating UGA’s Megan Darby 72-66. The Bulldogs edged USC 3-2 in reining. Sternoff, Biffle, Lindsay Williams (Sand Springs, Okla.), and Rebekah Roof (Lexington, S.C.) also competed for the Gamecocks in the reining competition.

Prior to the match, the team honored seniors Jess Boll (Ada, Mich.), Kelley Campbell, Ellen Hogate (St. Charles, Ill.), Sarah Lowe, Caitlin Sands (Lebanon, Pa.), Claire Sharp (Augusta, Ga.), and co-captains Carly Johns, and Rachel Sternoff.
