COLUMBIA, S.C.Natasa Vuckovic from the South Carolina women’s tennis team earned SEC Player of the Week recognition, the league office announced Tuesday. It was the second time in the sophomore’s career she received the award.

Vuckovic posted a 2-0 record in singles and doubles last week in helping the Gamecocks defeat LSU and Arkansas. She upended Nicole Kantor from LSU 6-4, 7-5 at three singles and was a 6-1, 6-0 winner against Audrey Bordeleau of Arkansas playing the No. 4 slot. Vuckovic teamed with Christyn Lucas for doubles at the second position, and the duo’s victories proved critical in securing the doubles points for both contests.

Vuckovic leads Carolina in dual-match singles victories with a 14-2 record and is currently riding a nine-match winning streak. Additionally, she has won 14 of her last 15 decisions and is 6-0 in SEC matches. Her doubles record is equally impressive at 15-5 overall, and she and Lucas are 13-1 as a tandem in dual competition.

With Vuckovic’s help, South Carolina has surpassed its win totals both overall and in league play from a year ago. The Gamecocks (13-3, 5-1 SEC) have their best record through 16 matches since 1999 when the team had the same mark en route to an appearance in the NCAA Sweet 16.

The Gamecocks hope to extend their five-match unbeaten streak when they host Auburn on Friday at 2 p.m. at Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center. South Carolina then takes Alabama on Sunday at 1 p.m.
