Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Equestrian team (8-3) defeated the Texas Christian Horned Frogs Saturday in Ft. Worth, Texas. The Hunt Seat team defeated all but one rider, improving their record to a stellar 10-0.

Two Gamecock riders, Courtney Reese (Tryon, N.C.) and Katie Stenberg (Rehoboth, Mass.), posted meet high scores of 95 in equitation over fences, with Reese earning MVP honors. Senior Ellen Hogate (St. Charles, Ill.) also earned high marks with a score of 93. Freshman Megan Massaro also competed in equitation over fences. In equitation on the flat, riders were Cate Sands (Lebanon, Pa.), Ciara Stuart (Milton Vt.), Alex Haskell (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Lisa Bourbonniere (Toronto, Ontario).

In a preview of the Varsity Equestrian National Championship, the Western team picked up their fourth win, with senior captain Rachel Sternoff (Redmond, Wash.) earning MVP honors in reining. USC and TCU tied at five, but South Carolina edged the Horned Frogs 645.5-643.5 in raw score. Sternoff was also the high scorer in the horsemanship competition. The team improved to 4-6 this season.

Western riders for the Gamecocks were Sternoff, Allison Bradley (Lancaster, Calif.), Katy Biffle (Orange Grove, Texas), Amy Biffle (Orange Grove, Texas), and Kristina Papendick in horsemanship. South Carolina completes their weekend in Texas Sunday, as they travel to Dallas to face Southern Methodist University in a rare two meet weekend. Carly Babcock (Deer Harbor, Wash.) and Ashley Rohde (Alpharetta, Ga.) will compete for the Gamecocks in equitation on the flat and over fences, respectively, marking the only change in the line-ups.
