AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn’s Anna Thompson held the South Carolina Gamecocks to just one hit as the Tigers took an 8-0 win in five innings in game one Saturday. The Gamecocks fell to 32-19, 10-13, while Auburn improved to 23-30, 8-18 to keep their hopes alive in advancing to the SEC Tournament. McKenna Hughes recorded the only hit for South Carolina with a single in the first inning.

Melissa Hendon took the loss as she gave up five runs on six hits and struck out five in four innings pitched. Hendon falls to 16-13 on the season. Thompson improved to 12-15 and struck out 11 Gamecock batters.

Auburn took advantage of a Gamecock error in the first inning when Ashley Arcuri reached on a bobble by Lindsay Walker to lead off. Arcuri eventually scored on an RBI single by Hollie Currie to give the Tigers the 1-0 lead.

In the fourth, the Tigers recorded three straight hits with one out to load the bases and set the scene for a big inning. Hendon was able to delay any scoring for one more batter as she struck out Jorja Bell for the second out, but Nicole Russo pushed Auburn ahead with a three-RBI double and lifted the Tigers to a 4-0 lead.

Auburn scored four more runs in the fifth to run-rule the Gamecocks 8-0. In the inning, Auburn used five hits to take a 7-0 lead, all with no outs. With only one run shy of the run-rule victory, Jorja Bell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and drove in the final run.

With the loss, the Gamecocks have been scoreless for 21.1 innings and have recorded only five hits.
