“Obviously we are excited to start the tournament with a win. I think our defense played really well. Our pitcher, Alicia Cook, is still battling through an illness. For her to come out and pitch a shutout, especially in a Regional, is awesome. Freshman shortstop Jenn Salling definitely found her bat with two home runs and a couple of RBIs. Penn State is a solid ball club so this is a quality win. Hopefully this win will get us rolling and get some of the nerves out of the way going in to tomorrow’s game.”

“I thought that our team made good adjustments throughout the game. We faced a different type of pitcher than we are used to seeing, so we struggled a little the first time through the lineup. We fought through it and came up with a good win.”

“I thought that Oregon did a nice job of the pitcher moving the ball around and keeping our hitters off balance. Obviously, their shortstop came up with a couple of key hits for them that put the game in their favor, but they had it today and we didn’t.”

(On what her team needs to do to stay alive): “Hit. We need to hit and score runs in order to come back tomorrow and win. That’s something that we control and we need to take care of that.”

Penn State Pitcher Jenn Reynolds

“I thought the game went well. Their shortstop had two really good hits, two really good home runs. I thought it was played really defensively well on both sides, but they just got the hits when they needed them and we didn’t.”

(On what her team needs to do to stay alive): “I just think we really need to just play carefree. We are really uptight right now. I think at the plate we need to relax just a little bit and hit the ball hard. We are a good hitting team and we just have to get it going. Once that starts we will be fine”
