The South Carolina cross country team made its first appearance in the NCAA Division I cross country regional rankings, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Monday. The Gamecocks are ranked 15th in the Southeast Region ranking.

“Since most coaches believe our region is one of the best and deepest Regions in the NCAA, being ranked 15th is really great for the team,” USC Head Cross Country Coach Stan Rosenthal said. “It is good to have their hard training and race results recognized in the poll. To hold our spot will take even more effort, as there are several good teams not ranked in the region who we will race against in our next two meets.”

South Carolina is coming off of a successful race last week at the First Annual Charlotte Invitational. The Gamecocks took home their second consecutive second place finish of the season. Only three teams have outrun the Gamecocks this season, including Davidson and Charlotte, both claiming a top-10 ranking in the Southeast division.
