GREENVILLE, S.C. — South Carolina women’s tennis sophomore Ana Marija Zubori took home the flight two singles title at the Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C., on Sunday. Zubori, ranked No. 77 in the nation, defeated No. 27 Catherine Newman of Vanderbilt in the final 6-4, 6-1.

In flight one, junior Gira Schofield won 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 against Laura Gioia from Furman to take third place, while classmate Natasa Vuckovic also won third place in flight three with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over North Carolina’s Megan Fanjoy. Senior Megan McGavock finished in fifth place in flight six after a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Samantha Eppelsheimer from Clemson.

Freshman Miljana Jocic tried to give Carolina another third-place finish in flight five but came up on the short end of a 6-4, 6-4 decision against Alexandra Luc of Clemson. Junior Suzanna Mansour also placed fourth after losing 6-1, 6-1 to Federica van Adrichem, also of Clemson.

The Gamecocks continue their fall season with two tournaments next week. Schofield and Zubori will compete at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships beginning Tuesday, while the remainder of the team heads to Evanston, Ill., for the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Northwestern over Oct. 5-7.
