UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Senior Rebecca Chain led the Gamecocks for the fifth consecutive time this season as the Gamecocks finished 22nd at the Penn State Invitational Friday morning.

Chain, the top runner for the Gamecocks, finished 110th with a time of 23:12, while freshman Ashley Evens claimed the spot as South Carolina’s top freshman finisher for the fifth straight time this season finishing behind Chain placing 133rd.

Junior Callie Rabun was third for the Gamecocks finishing 149th, while juniors Kelsey Bristol and Megan Robers also put points on the board for South Carolina. Freshmen Courtney Bowen and Cassity Brewer rounded out the scoring for the Gamecocks.

“It was a good run experience. We ran 6,000 meters for the first time this season, which was why we came up here,” Head Cross Country Coach Stan Rosenthal said.

West Virginia claimed the team title with 86 points, while Marie-Louise Asselin of West Virginia took the individual medalist honors finishing with a time of 20:46.

The Gamecocks will take some time off before heading to the SEC Championships Sat., Oct. 27 in Lexington, Ky.
