AUBURN, Ala. — Four members of the South Carolina women’s tennis team advanced in singles play Friday, while the doubles team of Megan McGavock and Suzanna Mansour made the flight B championship at the SEC Fall Coaches Classic in Auburn, Ala.
McGavock and Mansour upended Trgovich/Woestmann of Kentucky in the doubles semis 8-3 to start their day. The Gamecock duo will take on Cameron Ellis and Adrienne Elsberry from Georgia for the title Saturday.
In singles, McGavock was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over Katie Kilborn of Vanderbilt before posting a 6-1, 6-0 quarterfinal-triumph versus LSU’s Sloane Mathis. McGavock takes on Dunja Djuranovic from Auburn in the semifinals Saturday.
Jocic beat Jessica Giuggioli from Kentucky 6-0, 6-1 in the round of 32 in flight 3 and then took out Preethi Subramanian from Ole Miss by scores of 6-3, 6-2. Jocic will play Elsberry in the quarterfinals.
Mansour also advanced in flight 3 with a 7-6(2), 0-6, 6-4 win against Kentucky’s Alaina Trgovich in the round of 16. Mansour will clash with Soledad Podlipnik from Ole Miss in the quarters.
Natasa Vuckovic was a 6-1, 6-3 victor in her match with Daniela Juskova of Mississippi State in the round of 32 in flight 2, but she fell to No. 22 Monika Dancevic from Georgia in her ensuing match 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
In flight 1, Gira Schofield cruised past Nika Koukhartchouk from Ole Miss in her first match 6-1, 6-1 and will play Alabama’s Tiffany Welcher on Saturday in the quarterfinals. Ana Marija Zubori dropped her first-round contest with No. 27 Catherine Newman from Vanderbilt 7-5, 7-6(4).
Schofield and Zubori dropped their doubles match in the quarterfinals of flight A to Hyndman/Ueshima from Georgia 9-7. Jocic and Vuckovic defeated Sveke/Ulery from Vanderbilt 9-7 in a consolation match in flight B.
