AUBURN, Ala. — Senior Megan McGavock from the South Carolina women’s tennis team won the flight 4 singles title Sunday at the SEC Fall Coaches Classic in Auburn, Ala.

McGavock defeated Carolina Escamilla from Kentucky in straight sets 7-5, 6-1 after falling behind 3-0 in the first set. With the victory, McGavock capped her fall with an impressive 15-2 record to lead the team.

In the final of flight 1, Gamecock junior Gira Schofield suffered a 6-4, 6-4 setback to No. 27-ranked Catherine Newman from Vanderbilt. Schofield posted an 11-5 record this fall and beat four players who are currently ranked among the nation’s top 100.

As a team, South Carolina ended its fall season at the SEC Fall Coaches Classic with some impressive numbers. The Gamecocks went 8-3 (.727) in doubles matches and were 15-5 (.750) in singles contests over the course of the four-day event.
