COLUMBIA, S.C. – Two South Carolina men’s soccer players have earned postseason honors from Top Drawer Soccer. Sophomore midfielder Jeff Scannella, a 2007 First Team All-Conference USA honoree, was selected to the TDS Honorable Mention Team of the Year, while freshman goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer, the 2007 C-USA Freshman of the Year, was named to the TDS All-Rookie squad.

Maurer collected 11 wins during his rookie season, allowing just over one goal per game. He also recorded five shutouts and allowed just 21 goals. During the regular season, Maurer garnered adidas Gamecock Classic Defensive MVP and Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Scannella, who also received Top Drawer Soccer honors during his rookie season in ’06, paced the Gamecock offense in 2007, posting a team-best seven goals. Finding his groove during the month of October, the Alpharetta, Ga., native began the C-USA season scoring the game winner at UAB. He followed with goals at FIU and against SMU and Marshall. His goal against the Thundering Herd was also a game-winning tally, securing head coach Mark Berson’s 400th win at the helm of the Gamecock program.
