COLUMBIA, S.C. – Continuing a celebrated list of postseason awards for the Gamecocks, sophomore midfielder Jeff Scannella has been named to the NSCAA All-South Region Second Team, while classmate Tyler Ruthven, the 2007 Conference USA Newcomer of the Year, earned All-South Third-Team honors. The all-region awards are the first for both student-athletes.

Scannella adds to an impressive resume of postseason awards, having been named to the Conference USA First Team, the Top Drawer Soccer Honorable Mention Team and now the NSCAA All-South Region Second Team. The Alpharetta, Ga., native led Carolina with seven goals during his sophomore season, including three game-winning tallies. Finding his groove during the month of October, Scannella began the C-USA season scoring the game winner at UAB. He followed with goals at FIU and against SMU and Marshall. His goal against the Thundering Herd was also a game-winning tally, securing head coach Mark Berson’s 400th win at the helm of the Gamecock program.
