LIBERTY, Va. – Redshirt junior Jason Cook won the shot put with a distance of 53-7 ½ and two Gamecocks finished second and third in the men’s heptathlon in the final day of competition at the On Track Open in Liberty, Va.

Cook also placed third in the weight throw with a distance of 54-2 ½. Junior Curt McGill placed second after two days of competition in the heptathlon with 4,990 points, followed by Scott Pierce in third with 4,613 points.

McGill, the leader after the first four events in the first day of competition, won the 60-meter hurdles (8.62) Saturday but was edged by Liberty’s Dan Newel for the gold after seven heptathlon events. Pierce won the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:46.76.

Scott, Pierce and Cook, along with the rest of the team competing tonight at the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, will continue the indoor season next Saturday at the Millrose Games in New York City.
