TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 1/2 Alabama completed the doubleheader sweep of South Carolina with an 8-0 victory in five innings in game two on Saturday at the Alabama Softball Complex. The Crimson Tide move to 43-3 on the campaign, 22-2 in the Southeastern Conference, while the Gamecocks fall to 20-20, 7-12 in league play.

Alabama got on the board quickly, as Jordan Praytor scored on a one-out double by Kelley Montalvo in the first inning. Praytor reached on a single and moved to second on a wild pitch.

The Crimson Tide added three runs in the second, all scoring with two outs. Back-to-back singles by Ashley Holcombe and Kellie Eubanks came ahead of a Whitney Larsen fielder’s choice, as Larsen’s grounder hit Eubanks, sending Holcombe back to second. Katie Johnson recorded a fielder’s choice, as she hit the ball right back to Gamecock starter Kate Pouliot, who threw to third to force out Holcombe. Brittany Rogers sent a grounder to short that the Garnet and Black could not handle, loading the bases. Praytor sent the next pitch into right, and all three runners came home. Montalvo ended the inning with a grounder to third.

The game wrapped up in the fifth thanks to four more Tide runs. Rogers reached on an error by the shortstop and moved to second on Praytor’s walk. A single by Montalvo loaded the bases for Charlotte Morgan, who singled back through the middle to plate Rogers and Praytor. After a Pouliot strikeout and a lineout, Eubanks plated Montalvo with an RBI single. A throwing error by the Gamecock catcher put the game-ending run on third, and Larsen closed it out with her shot back through the box.

Pouliot (5-3) allowed nine hits in 4.2 innings, walking one while striking out four. Just two of the eight runs allowed by Pouliot were earned thanks to four Gamecock errors. Morgan (13-0) struck out three while giving up three hits in the complete-game shutout.

The three-game series concludes with Sunday’s contest, slated for a 1:30 p.m. CDT first pitch.
