COLUMBIA, S.C. – Three of South Carolina’s incoming freshmen for the fall of 2008 have been recognized by RISE Magazine as one of the top 30 recruits in the United States. David MacVane (No. 7), Daniel Cates (No. 23) and Brandon Tarr (No. 25) were each selected to the prestigious list and will continue their respective soccer careers at Carolina.

A United States U-17 National Team residency program participant, MacVane has been a member of the U-14, -15, -16, -17 and -18 U.S. National Teams. He garnered 2007 NSCAA High School All-America honors, is a member of the Region I Olympic Development Program (ODP) and has participated in numerous national and international competitions. MacVane marks the second top-10 honoree for the Gamecocks, as rising sophomore Sam Arthur was No. 10 on last year’s list.

A two-time NSCAA High School All-American, Cates is a member of the Region III ODP squad and was a four-year high school all-region selection by the NSCAA. A Columbia local, Cates excelled at Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, S.C., and also contributed as a member of the Lexington United 89 club team.

Also a United States U-17 National Team residency program participant, Tarr was a member of the U.S. U-15 National Team, as well as a member of the Region III ODP squad. Tarr brings an extensive list of national and international experience to the Gamecock squad.
