COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina senior Mark Anderson earned a spot on the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) PING All-America honorable mention list, the organization announced today. With the honor, Anderson closes his Gamecock career in much the way he opened it, having captured all-conference, all-region and All-America honors as a freshman as well.
“I’m extremely proud of the great year Mark put together,” South Carolina head coach Bill McDonald said. “He had a very consistent year, and I’m glad he’s being rewarded for that hard work. He was a great leader for our team on the course and in the classroom. We are going to miss him next season.”
Anderson collected seven top-20 showings this season, including six this spring, and finished in the top 25 in nine of his 10 tournaments. He cracked the top 10 for the first time this season with a ninth-place showing at the John Hayt Invitational to open spring play and finished a season-best sixth at the Administaff Augusta State Invitational heading into the SEC Championship. In his final conference event, Anderson rallied back from a first-round setback to take 15th place. Anderson finished the season with a career-best 72.00 average to rank sixth in the SEC. He closed his four-year career with a 73.72 stroke average.
