CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The South Carolina women’s tennis team concluded play in the UVa Invitational on Sunday at Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville, Va.

Ana Marija Zubori finished her weekend with a 3-0 record by defeating No. 42 Kellie Schmitt from Marshall 6-1, 6-4. Natasa Vuckovic also posted an unbeaten weekend, beating Marshall’s Isabell Raich 6-3, 6-2 in her final contest, while freshman Ashley Miller improved to 3-0 with an easy 6-2, 6-3 win against Kristina Koprcina, also from Marshall.

Jelena Rajic and Suzanna Mansour finished their first weekends of play with 2-1 records by posting victories Sunday. Rajic was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Thaddea Lock from Marshall and Mansour upended Lock’s teammate Jessica Keener 7-5, 6-2.

South Carolina’s Miljana Jocic nearly went 2-1 but lost a tough 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 match to Marshall’s Deanna Bailey in her final match. Gira Schofield suffered her third loss of the event after retiring in her match against Alejandra Guerra of UNC Greensboro.

The Gamecocks did not have as much success in doubles versus the Thundering Herd. Bailey and Schmitt defeated Schofield and Vuckovic 8-5, and Keener and Lock defeated Mansour and Miller 8-4.

South Carolina heads to Greenville, S.C., for its next event over Sept. 26-28 at the Furman Fall Classic.
