GREENVILLE, S.C. — South Carolina’s women’s tennis team completed its first day of play in the Furman Fall Classic on Friday in Greenville, S.C.

South Carolina’s most successful tandem on the day was Ana Marija Zubori and Natasa Vuckovic. They won 9-8(4) in their first match with Arguello/Gioia of Furman and after losing to Featherston/Tsang from North Carolina, they scored a 9-8(2) victory from Newman/C. Ulery of Vanderbilt in the third-place match. Vanderbilt’s duo is ranked No. 35 in the country this fall.

In flight three, Ashley Miller and Jelena Rajic won their opening-round match-up with Vanderbilt’s Blatt/Robertson 8-5 before suffering an 8-3 setback to Fanjoy/Reichert from North Carolina in the semifinals. Miller and Rajic finished in fourth place after losing to Hadziselimovic/Luc from Clemson 8-2.

Miljana Jocic and Suzanna Mansour were unable to score a victory in flight two. They lost first to the No. 29-rated team of Murray/Robison from Northwestern by an 8-1 count and then fell 8-6 to K. Ulery/Wu from Vanderbilt in their first consolation match. Preeg/Tomory defeated the Gamecock tandem 8-6 in the seventh-place match.

All doubles matches and no singles were played Friday because of rain. Two singles matches are scheduled for Saturday and one Sunday.
