COLUMBIA, S.C. – Junior Ana Marija Zubori from the women’s tennis team has been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week.

Zubori finished in second place at the Furman Fall Classic over the weekend playing in the top singles flight. She defeat No. 23-ranked Katrina Tsang of North Carolina in the quarterfinals before upending No. 40 Catherine Newman of Vanderbilt in the semis. Zubori lost in the championship to Clemson’s Ani Mijacika, who is ranked No. 2.

Zubori also teamed with Natasa Vuckovic to go 2-1 in doubles playing in the toughest draw. After splitting their first two matches, Zubori and Vuckovic, who are unranked, posted a win against Vanderbilt’s 35th-ranked duo of Newman and Courtney Ulery.

Zubori, last year’s AgSouth Female Athlete of the Year, is ranked No. 54 this fall in singles and is 19th in doubles with Gira Schofield. She is off to a 5-1 start in singles with three victories against opponents ranked in the top 50 nationally.
