STARKVILLE, Miss. – For the third-consecutive year, the University of South Carolina softball program earned the Girls Got Game Top Ten All-Academic Team award from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, the organization announced today.

As a team, South Carolina compiled a 3.414 grade point average in the 2007-08 academic year, tying fellow Southeastern Conference squad Mississippi State for eighth in the country. The Gamecocks and Bulldogs were the only SEC teams in the top 10. Tennessee Tech led the country with a 3.540 GPA, while Gardner-Webb and Seton Hall followed in the top three.

The Carolina Gamecocks currently are working out in preparation for the 2009 season. Ten newcomers will join 12 returning letterwinners for head coach Joyce Compton this spring.
