Nov. 13, 2008

The South Carolina cross country team heads to Clemmons, N.C., to compete at the NCAA Southeast Regionals on Sat., Nov. 15, at Tanglewood State Park. The event will feature Division I women’s teams from Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The 6,000-meter race is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. The top two teams and top four individuals not on those teams from each race will automatically advance to the 2008 NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 24.

“The team is excited about competing at the NCAA Southeast Regionals,” head coach Stan Rosenthal said. “They have had very good workouts after the SEC Championship. Everyone is ready to have their best race of the season. It should be a great race for the team and a good way to end the fall.”

South Carolina and Kentucky are the two SEC teams in the Southeast Region, which consists of 45 NCAA Division I teams.

The Gamecocks will look to freshman Beatrice Biwott to lead the way. Biwott was named to the 2008 SEC Women’s Cross Country All-SEC Freshman team after her performance at the SEC Championship. She has led South Carolina for five consecutive races.

Junior Danielle Barnes, sophomore Ashley Evens, and freshmen Erin Fedewa, Elizabeth Heath, Nicole Rheinlander and Amanda Smith will also compete at the NCAA Southeast Regionals.
