COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina sophomore goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer has been named to the 2008 NSCAA adidas All-South Region First Team, while sophomore striker Sam Arthur has been named to the second team, as announced by the organization on Wednesday. The award is the first such honor for both student-athletes.

Maurer paced the Gamecock defense during the 2008 season, collecting a 0.80 goals against average and nine shutouts. The Lawrenceville, Ga., native earned a 0.79 goals against average in conference games, while collecting three shutouts against league foes. Maurer tallied at least three saves in every match, including a season-high eight against North Carolina. He garnered four C-USA Defensive Player of the Week awards to tie for the most C-USA weekly honors in a single season.

Arthur led the Gamecocks with 12 goals and three assists for a total of 27 points on the year. The Roswell, Ga., native collected two goals in Conference USA play, both game winners, while also contributing one assist. Arthur ranked in the top 25 national statistics throughout the season, while earning conference and national player of the week honors.
