COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina senior guard Zam Fredrick has been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week.
Fredrick connected on a lay-up with just tenths of a second remaining on the clock to propel the Gamecocks to a 70-69 victory over No. 24 Florida in SEC play on Jan. 21. Fredrick missed a free throw to tie the contest with five seconds remaining on the clock, but capitalized on a pass from teammate Mike Holmes off of a missed Gator free throw with three seconds remaining to clinch the upset win for the Gamecocks.
The win marked the second for South Carolina over a ranked opponent this season, marking the first time since the 2005-06 campaign the Gamecocks have defeated two ranked opponents in a season. The game-winner for Fredrick also marked his second game-winning basket of the season, as he also tallied South Carolina’s winning shot in the upset win over then-No. 19 Baylor on Jan. 2.
