The South Carolina baseball team will debut Carolina Stadium on February 21, 2009 as the Gamecocks host Duquesne in the first game of a three-game series. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to the stadium and enjoy all the Opening Day ceremonies. Recording artist Darius Rucker will sing the national anthem and ceremonial first pitches will be thrown by South Carolina President Dr. Harris Pastides and former Gamecock coaches Bobby Richardson and June Raines. Commemorative coins will also be given out to the first 4,000 fans to enter the stadium.
The inaugural game at Carolina Stadium and baseball season opener between South Carolina and Duquesne on Saturday, Feb. 21 has been sold out along with the Sunday, Mar. 1 contest between the Gamecocks and Clemson. Faculty and staff tickets are still being held at the gate for pick up on the day of the games. Fans can still see both contests at GamecocksOnline.com with a live streaming video broadcast available on Gamecock All-Access.
