Recap | Final Stats

South Carolina Head Coach Darrin Horn
Opening Statement…
I felt coming into this game that it would be a challenge. This is a team that has a lot of athleticism. I think Charlton [Young] has done a phenomenal job . We did not come out ready to play tonight. I didn’t do a good enough job of getting us ready. But I thought we responded well along the way and we did it by being pretty much carried by Dominique Archie… I think what we saw tonight it just something that I’ve known for a long time that he is capable of and I think that he is going to continue to do it. But what gets overlooked is it’s the little things that make the difference with that. There was a stretch at the end of the game where he had two straight offensive boards. It’s just the little things that add up that you need from fifth year seniors. So he was terrific tonight. It was good to see Lakeem (Jackson) and Ramon (Galloway) play like I think they can, they were aggressive and out there playing and making stuff happen. I thought Brandis (Raley-Ross) was terrific off the bench with a lot of energy, all positive and no negative from him. Those are things that we have to continue to build on, it’s early and we have a lot of work to do.

On Georgia Southern …
We knew they were athletic and we knew they had guys that could shoot the basketball and just do things. If you look at their box score, it’s hard to score 108 points, I don’t care who you are. It was a situation where we knew it would be a challenge for the coaching staff and obviously we didn’t do a good enough job to get our players on that. But the response was outstanding and the key was the run to start the second half it was run by defense. It was wild but the more important thing was that it led to good offense from us.

On turnovers…
It’s not a matter of the amount of turnovers but of how we turned it over. After we had drawn up the offense, to get people open to do what they needed to do and we tried to make plays that weren’t there. The good news is that it is early and they are things that you can correct through practice so we just have to get to work on those things.
