Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina junior right-handed pitcher Sam Dyson earned third-team Louisville Slugger Preseason All-America honors as announced by Collegiate Baseball on Monday afternoon. Dyson was a frontline starter for Carolina in the 2009 season and compiled a 9-4 record with a 5.21 ERA and hurled a team-high 102 innings. He struck out 94 and walked 37. He allowed 64 runs, 59 earned on 92 hits as well.

In his two-year career, Dyson owns a 17-4 record and has 138 strikeouts in 152.2 innings pitched. He was a 10th round MLB Draft selection by the Oakland A’s in 2009 as well.

Picked up win vs. George Mason in NCAA Regional, allowed three runs on seven hits in seven innings with five strikeouts and four walks, a 11-3 victory over GMU (5/29) … Quality start in 5-4 loss vs. Vanderbilt at SEC Tournament earned a no-decision, allowed four runs on eight hits in seven innings of work with eight strikeouts and one walk (5/21) … Complete game in 7-2 win over Georgia (5/14), allowed just two runs on four hits with career-high 13 strikeouts … Worked 8.2 innings and allowed five runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts in 8-5 win over Vanderbilt (5/1) … First career complete game in 8-3 win over Auburn (4/19), allowed just three runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and one walk … Earned victory in 12-10 win over Ole Miss, hurled 5.2 innings and allowed seven runs, five earned, on eight hits with six strikeouts and four walks (4/10) … Improved to 4-1 with victory at Kentucky (3/28), allowed eight runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings … Defeated fifth ranked LSU with seven innings of two-hit ball, allowed just one run in 7-3 victory over Tigers (3/21) … First career loss at Mississippi State (3/14), allowed eight runs, seven earned on nine hits in 4.1 innings … Did not allow an earned run in seven innings of work, a 15-8 win over Long Beach State, improved record to 2-0 on the year … Pitched 6.1 innings and allowed just one run on two hits in 3-1 win at Clemson, retired first 13 batters he faced (2/28) … Five scoreless innings in season opener, a 13-0 win over Duquesne (2/21) … Struck out six and allowed just one hit in the victory.
