COLLEGE STATION, Texas – South Carolina multi-event athlete Scott Pierce sits in fourth place after four events in the heptathlon in day one at the Texas A&M SEC-Pac-10-Big 12 Challenge.
Pierce has 2,792 points after competing in the 60m dash, long jump, shot put and high jump Friday night. He took third in the shot put with a throw of 40’8 ¼ (12.40) to claim 631 points. In the 60m dash he ran 7.44 (732 points) and in the long jump he hit 20’6 ½ (6.26) for 644 points.
In the final event of the day, Pierce cleared 6-6 (1.98m) in the high jump for 785 points. Tomorrow, he will participate in the 60m hurdles, pole vault and the 1,000m run – his specialty in the heptathlon.
South Carolina’s entire men’s and women’s teams return to action Saturday in the final day of competition at the Texas A&M Challenge.
