CLEMSON, S.C. – A large contingent of South Carolina tracksters at the Tiger Paw Invitational were led by a win in the weight throw by Michael Zajac and a 2-3-4 finish in the women’s shot put.
Zajac earned his second victory of the year with his toss of 68-7 ¾ (20.92m). The toss counts as his third NCAA provisional qualifying mark of the year. Leading the Gamecock women’s throwers was the efforts of Stacee Roberts, Breanna Radford and Katie Vuckovich in the shot put. The trio placed 2-3-4, respectively, to highlight a strong weekend of competition at Clemson.
Roberts finished as runner up with a toss of 46-1 ¼ (14.05m), followed by Radford at 45-5 ¾ (13.86m) and Vuckovich (41-9 ¼ (13.73m). Aimee Kodat took eighth after tying her season best at 41-7 ¼ (12.68m).
In the sprints, freshman Breanna Hubbard qualified for the 60m final and finished eighth with a time of 7.64. She also took 10th in the 200m at 25.69.
On the men’s side, Daniel Smoak ran a season best 8:52.19 in the 3000m run, and Aaron Searles hit a season best in the triple jump at 45-8 ½ (13.93m) to place fourth. In addition, Louis Day hit a personal best 51-6 ¼ (15.70m) in the shot put to place sixth.
South Carolina hosts the Gamecock Invitational next Saturday at the USC Field House.
