GREENSBORO, N.C. – South Carolina’s women’s golf team shot 302 (+14) in the second round to move to 20-over for the tournament and remain in seventh place at the Bryan National Collegiate on Saturday.

The Gamecocks were led in the second round by freshman Amanda Strang, who posted a score of 73 (+1) to move to 8-over for the tournament. Strang, a native of Sweden, made the turn at 1-over after a birdie and two bogeys, then sandwiched a pair of birdies between two bogeys down the stretch. She moved up more than 20 spots in the individual standings to a tie for 45th place through two rounds.

Sophomore Katie Burnett only dropped a few spots to a tie for 11th place after a round of 76 (+4) on Saturday to move to 2-over for the weekend. Burnett, who posted a 2-under-par 70 on Friday, had two bogeys and a birdie on the front nine to make the turn at 1-over, but a double-bogey at the par-5 14th and a bogey at the 16th dropped her to 4-over for the day.

Senior Benedicte Toumpsin shot 75 (+3) on the day to move into a tie for 23rd place at 5-over par for the weekend. The par-5 14th also got the better of the Belgium native as a double-bogey there was her only major blemish on the day that included two birdies and three bogeys. Fellow senior Taylor Barrett shot 78 (+7) and is tied for 49th place, and the team’s third senior, Corrine Carr, shot 81 (+9) in the second round.

Florida State holds the 36-hole team lead at 579 (+3) after shooting 288 (E) on Saturday. Wake Forest is second, one shot back at 580 (+4), and Ohio State is tied with Tennessee for third place at 592 (+16). The Gamecocks are only four shots out of third place at 596 (+20). Individually, Wake Forest teammates Cheyenne Woods and Michelle Shin are tied for the lead at 139 (-5) with Duke’s Lindy Duncan two shots back in third place.

South Carolina will be paired with North Carolina and Auburn for Sunday’s final round, which begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on the Bryan Park Players Course. Live scoring is available through Golfstat.com.
