COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina posted 11 wins this afternoon to close out the 2010 Spec Towns National Team Invitational. Gamecock junior Antonio Sales captured four of the team’s first-place finishes.
South Carolina swept the sprints securing first place in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays for both the men and women. The men finished the 4x100m relay with a time of 40.17, while the women posted a time of 44.94. In the 4x400m relay, the men captured a time of 3:08.51 and the women finished at 3:42.23.
Two of Carolina’s sophomores took home wins in the 400m events. Radiance Basden took home a first-place finish in the women’s 400m hurdles posting a time of 1:01.97, while Nadonnia Rodrigues finished first in the women’s 400m dash.
Sales had an impressive showing this afternoon capturing four firsts. He crossed first in the men’s 100m dash with a time of 10.48 and won the men’s 200m dash with a time of 20.91. He also contributed to the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams’ victories.
South Carolina senior Obakeng Ngwigwa took first in the men’s 400m dash invitational with a time of 46.75 while also helping secure the win in the men’s 4x100m relay.
Redshirt senior Trier Young was the runner-up in the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 15.06.
In the men’s 400m dash, junior Aaron Anderson was the runner-up with a time of 48.55, while Chris Maxwell took the third-place spot finishing at 49.72.
On the distance side, Danielle Barnes was the runner-up in the 1500m, posting a time of 4:48.00. Following close behind to secure third place was junior Ashley Evens with a time of 4:49.51. Freshman Alex Bermudez secured a first place finish in the men’s 800m run with a time of 1:58.62, with RJ Walling taking second place with a time of 1:58.89.
Jarrett Gerald secured a first-place finish in the men’s long jump with a distance of 7.18m, and Stacee Roberts placed third in the women’s shot put with a distance of 47.24m.
The Gamecocks head to Greensboro, N.C. next weekend where they will compete in the Int’l Friendship & Games.
