South Carolina women’s golf signee Suzie Lee was the medalist in a U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links sectional qualifier on Tuesday, shooting a 1-under-par 71 at Laurel Hills Golf Club in Lorton, Va.

Lee, a native of East Northport, N.Y., will compete against more than 150 other amateurs at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship, which will be held June 21-26 at the Warren Golf Club in Notre Dame, Ind. Lee has previous experience in USGA events, having advanced to the round of 16 in match play at the U.S. Girls Junior Amateur last year and earning a 17th-place finish at the 2007 Girls Junior.

In addition, former Gamecock Erica Battle (now Erica Pressley) shot a 4-over 76 at River Crossing Golf Club in Spring Branch, Texas, on Tuesday to earn her way into the USWAPL.

Sophomore Katie Burnett and incoming freshman Katie Rose Higgins fell short in their bids to advance to the USWAPL Championship. Burnett played in a qualifier in Covington, Ga., on Tuesday, while Higgins missed out on a qualifying spot from Ironwood Country Club in Greenville, N.C., two weeks ago.
