COLUMBIA, S.C. – City of Columbia officials will hold a parade Friday at noon on Main Street to commemorate the Gamecock baseball team’s historic NCAA championship title. Coach Ray Tanner will lead the Gamecock Baseball National Championship Parade as the Grand Marshal.

The parade will begin at the corner of Main and Laurel Streets, travel down Main Street and end at the corner of Main and Gervais Streets.

Immediately following the parade, mayor Steve Benjamin will present Tanner and the University of South Carolina baseball team with a proclamation naming July 2, 2010, coach Ray Tanner and Gamecock Baseball Day. Mayor Benjamin will also provide the team with a key to the city of Columbia.

Tanner will be the grand marshal for Friday’s parade. Local elected officials, business leaders and Gamecock fans will participate in the parade that will travel along Main Street and end at the State House Grounds. Cocky and Sir Big Spur, III, will be joining the processional. Fort Jackson’s Marching Band will provide music and South Carolina’s cheerleaders will keep the crowd motivated along the parade route.

In addition to city officials, coach Tanner and representatives from the University of South Carolina will also speak, including William Hubbard and Eric Hyman.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend and join in the celebration of our 2010 College World Series champions and join the city of Columbia in our efforts to say thank you and GO COCKS!
