COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina seniors Taylor Barrett and Corrine Carr, along with sophomore Katie Burnett and freshman Amanda Strang, were named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team, which was released earlier this week.

Barrett becomes the fourth Gamecock women’s golfer to earn selection to the All-American Scholar team for four straight years, joining Whitney Simons and Blythe Worley, who were named to the team each year from 2005 to 2008, and Jenna Pearson, who was honored from 2004 to 2007. The York, S.C., native finished the 2010 season with a 77.25 stroke average, the best of her four-year career, and graduated in May with a degree in business management.

Carr earned her second selection to the team as she completed her senior year with a 74.85 scoring average, ranking her in the top 10 single seasons in South Carolina history. The native of Pinehurst, N.C., is on track to complete her degree in business finance in the fall.

Also earning her second selection to the All-American Scholar team was Burnett, the 2010 NCAA East Regional medalist and an NGCA and Golfweek All-American after a stellar sophomore season. Burnett, who hails from Brunswick, Ga., is majoring in experimental psychology and is a two-time selection to the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Strang, a native of Jonstorp, Sweden, rounds out the Gamecocks’ contingent as she earns her first academic honor of her young career. She was named to the SEC All-Freshman team after posting a 75.73 scoring average in her rookie season at South Carolina.

Among SEC schools, South Carolina and Mississippi led the way with four selections each to the team. In all, 24 SEC women’s golfers were named to the team. Across all three NCAA divisions, a total of 494 women’s collegiate golfers were recognized. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a minimum grade point average of 3.50 and participate in at least 50 percent of the school’s competitive rounds during the season.
