COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina head volleyball coach Ben Somera completed his full-time staff with the addition of Amy Pauly as a graduate assistant for the 2010 season.

Pauly spent the past spring working with the 16 Silver group of First Alliance Volleyball Club in Chicago as an assistant coach, working with the players on defense and passing. During the fall of 2009, the former Alabama four-year letterwinner served as the head coach at Tuscaloosa Academy, guiding the varsity squad to a conference tournament appearance. While enrolled at Alabama, she worked as an assistant coach with the Club Crimson squad.

During her playing days at the Capstone, Pauly set every Alabama digs record, including her career record of 1,724 that still ranks sixth in Southeastern Conference annals. The three-time Alabama Defensive Player of the Year, Pauly helped the Crimson Tide to three NCAA Tournament appearances. A four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member, she graduated in May of 2009 with her bachelor’s degree in public relations.

The Gamecocks open the 2010 campaign at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 at the State Farm Illini Classic in Champaign, Ill., against Middle Tennessee.
