COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina men’s soccer contest versus intrastate rival Clemson on September 3 has been selected to be the season opener for the nationally televised, primetime, NSCAA College Game of the Week on Fox Soccer Channel. The match, originally scheduled for 7 p.m., has been pushed to 8 p.m. with the addition of television for the event. The match marks South Carolina’s first on the network since the 2007 campaign.
“We’re really looking forward to our season opener on Fox Soccer Channel,” South Carolina head coach Mark Berson said. “Stone Stadium (`The Graveyard’) is one of the great collegiate soccer venues in the country, and we are excited to showcase our team, our stadium and our great fans in a national telecast. The Gamecock football team opens the college season on ESPN on Thursday night and Gamecock men’s college soccer opens its season the next night at The Graveyard. What a great way to start the fall.”
South Carolina has won three consecutive contests against its archrival, not allowing a single Tiger goal in the stretch.
The Gamecocks begin the 2010 campaign with an exhibition contest at High Point University on August 21. Continue to visit GamecocksOnline.com throughout the season for official news on South Carolina men’s soccer.
