COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina senior goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Maurer earns the weekly accolades for the eighth time of his career and the second time of the 2010 season after being honored on Sept. 7.
Maurer collected his third shutout of the season in South Carolina’s 1-0 road victory over Charlotte on Saturday. The shutout marks Maurer’s 22nd of his career, moving him into sole possession of third place in school history in the category. Maurer now holds a 1.12 goals against average on the year. He collected five saves in the match, including a save just 16 seconds into the contest to preserve the early shutout. This season, Maurer sits atop the C-USA statistical standings as he holds a 0.50 shutouts per game average.
South Carolina continues non-conference action when it travels to face No. 19 Wake Forest on Tuesday in Winston-Salem, N.C. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
